Portsmouth to Banepa…a steep learning curve…

Suddenly the provisional departure date of 10 March 2010 isn’t that far away.

Portsmouth to Banepa- a steep learning curve: (John Callaway 2010)

The placement is for 26 months with two community based organisations called Sakriya Plus Nepal and Navadeep Jyoti Kendra , both of whom work with people with HIV & AIDS. I will be based at Banepa in the Kavre district of Nepal.

The overarching aims of the placement are

“…building the capacity of the  partner organisations in order to plan and deliver their programmes more effectively in support of the needs of People Living With HIV & AIDS (PLWHA), and those sections of population considered most at risk (MARP)…

To advocate for their rights at the local and district level for PLWHA to access treatment…

To reduce stigma and discrimination towards PLWHA”.

So with further training from VSO scheduled for the end of the month I’m beginning to familiarise myself with Nepal itself, the language,  as well as the various strategic plans and programme area plans detailing VSO’s role in the country.

In the meantime…
