So much for maintaining the narrative of Lesley’s visit!! So here’s the short version of the bits after Kathmandu….
1. Walking….lots! Banepa to Nagarkot…7 hours or so. Beautiful scenery, lots of uphill…not very much down! But cracking views of the Himalayas when we got there, and again at sunrise the next morning. Nagarkot to Jhule…around 4-5 hours. More stunning views of the Himalayas. Jhule to Kathmandu 4 or so hours walking/bus ride.
2. Elephants at Chitwan….. Sitting behind the mahout who excercises a degree of control with his bare feet behind the elephants ear. Probably not the most obvious view of an elephant…!!
3. Rhinos at Chitwan. Priceless.
4. A rare sighting of an occasional autumn visitor to Nepal. Perfect…
And before it had started, it was over…
So…normal ramblings from next week again, assuming I can get online!! A newspaper from a few days ago carried the exciting news that from the 17th November, here in Nepal we are going to be without power for 29 hours per week, instead of the current 12 hours. Virtually all of the power here is derived from hydro electricity, and maintenance of one of the major turbines is scheduled to commence shortly. It gets better though…!
For the winter months we can expect up to 14 hours without power every day as the flow of water decreases….
