A new tyranny….revisited.

Continuing a theme from an earlier post…

Oxfam estimates that of the $18.47 trillion being held by individuals in tax havens around the globe, over a third is sitting in accounts in British Overseas Territories and Crown Dependencies. It suggests that the money sequestered away in tax havens is enough to end extreme poverty twice over, with around a third of the money held sitting in accounts in British Overseas Territories and Crown Dependencies. “These figures put the UK at the centre of a global tax system that is a colossal betrayal of people here and in the poorest countries who are struggling to get by, and put the government on the side of the privileged few. If they want to get on the right side of this debate, now is the time to take action…” [Oxfam press release. 22 May 2013]

Meanwhile…compassion goes out of the window. Social justice and equality give way to words which promise much but deliver little….

“All that is solid melts into air, all that is holy is profaned, and man is at last compelled to face with sober senses, his real conditions of life, and his relations with his kind” [Karl Marx- Communist Manifesto. Ch. 1]

Maybe new lines are being drawn? Paul Mason certainly thinks so….and so do I.
