Ship of fools…

“Ship of Fools’ criss-crossed the sea and canals of Europe with their comic and pathetic cargo of souls. Some of them found pleasure and even a cure in the changing surroundings, in the isolation of being cast off, while others withdrew further, became worse, or died alone and away from their families…..”Michel Foucault from  “Madness and Civilisation“]

And so it comes to pass as the day job tells me I can no longer get funding for social and emotional support for people with long term health and support needs. Despite the fact that there’s a fair bit of research which suggests that those with high quality or quantity of social networks have a decreased risk of mortality in comparison to those who have low quantity or quality of social relationships, we still look to fix the problems with practical assistance alone.

Might as well go and feed the birds…
