Phoenix nights…?

“There was a silly damn bird called a phoenix back before Christ, every few hundred years he built a pyre and burnt himself up. He must have been the first cousin to Man. But every time he burnt himself up he sprang out of the ashes, he got himself born all over again….”  [Ray Bradbury : “Fahrenheit 451”].

If you don’t know that something has happened, can it really have happened.

Phoenix rising… [John Callaway. 2018]

The other day I received in the post a copy of a letter from my consultant cardiologist to my GP. To whit, “the above named gentleman performed an unscheduled home monitoring download. This documents a pace burden of 56% and an episode of 15 beats of non-sustained VT”. Such nefarious activities “…would suggest an up-titration (in medication)…to the next potential dose…”.

A little knowledge can be a dangerous thing, but as far as I was aware the last download I’d performed was an ROIO of a Bob Dylan concert from The Big O

See…we’re all guilty of coded language…  😉

Although I suspect some of you, (hi Swappers) will know what I’m on about…

But I digress…a phone call to the cardiac physiology department provided a little more clarity.

Short version…the defibrillator is doing what it should…

Longer version…a brief episode (15 beats) of an arrhythmic heart pattern which suggested that my medication needed some further adjustment, and that despite my not feeling anything since having the defibrillator fitted, it had been called into action 56% of the time.

So…a little less likelihood of building that pyre just yet, and a little more acceptance that sometimes things just “are”. They do their job, I don’t fully understand how and why…I’m just grateful that they do…

Worth a minute of your time… British Heart Foundation
