“On stage exorcism with you…” [“Limited Edition Heart”: Gruff Rhys]
Without doubt one of the gigs of the year at the Wedgewood Rooms IMHO. Not a complete sell-out, but should’ve been. What’s wrong with you Portsmouth?
Support by Group Listening. Piano and clarinet duo- not the ‘usual’ support act, but well worth some solitary listening here. Obviously at some subconscious level, this music is clearly able to incite pointless whooping and hollering, and the goading of security staff to the extent that one hapless (and pissed) punter was ejected some 10 minutes into their set, before Mr R had even set foot on the stage… (Can’t wait for Phil Campbell & The Bastard Sons next week, who are somewhat more liminal in their approach…).
Anyway… Side 1 and Side 2 of Babelsburg, a brief appearance by John Evans, a resistance to phoney (sic) encores, and instructions from the stage as to how to respond…
It’s all below…

Interest piqued by both recent postings, John; you have eclectic tastes and bring me things that I hadn’t heard before. You are obviously keeping busy. I looked that the official video for Frontier Man, btw, and was disappointed to see that the continuity bod hadn’t bothered to remove the lid from the green plastic bottle that is so central to the whole thing (although when GR is in the scrubland, it seems to have disappeared); that said, it really didn’t detract from the lyrics/whole thing. Where do you get good continuity bods these days, eh? I’m glad to be in your loop, John
