Light falls through itself…

Back to Farlington Marshes on a quiet bank holiday Monday. It’s a location that bears repeated visits, whatever the weather or season. In truth, less is more in terms of a (lack of) colour palette. Form and shape seem to become more pronounced in black and white. Landscapes pared down their raw essence.

One of the first books of photography that I was given was “Remains of Elmet”. Poems written by Ted Hughes to accompany the landscape photography of Fay Godwin. It sometimes feels as if I carry those images in my head, along with the words. A spirit guide to landscape photography. In his introduction to the book, Ted Hughes talks about watching the landscapes and communities changing to the point of dying. The book and poems, first published in 1979, were a record of the landscape at that moment

Likewise below, a threatened landscape of the moment. A small salt marsh on the south coast….
