We’ll live and die in these towns…

Ah, The Enemy... They’ve featured before in this blog for reasons of circumstance. So this weekend was a sort of homecoming… seeing them live back in my hometown of Coventry at the HMV Empire. Final night of the re-union tour. Last time I was in this location was back in the late 1970’s, (that’ll be some 45 years ago!!), when it was a cinema. So a different purpose tonight…

Been anticipating this for several months… Coventry band at a home town venue….and they didn’t disappoint. A fair few Sky Blue shirts about of various hues and vintages, and an assortment of CCFC related songs from the audience as the build up begins…. Baba O’Reilly on the PA, minimalist stage (as it should be). Lights dim, and here we go….

“Are you fucking up for this Cov…?” asks Tom Clarke before the band rips into ‘Aggro’. Yeah…we’re fucking up for this….

And from here on, it visceral, intense and everything live music should be. A shared experience, a common bond and a reminder that the moment might be fleeting, but it has a habit of laying down memories that last for much longer….
